Simafra is proud to announce that his exhibition “Eden”, held at Maddox Gallery on January 2017, just won the Best Exhibition at an Art Gallery award at The Mayfair Awards 2017.
Here is the press release from the gallery:
Maddox Gallery is incredibly proud to be recognised at The Mayfair Awards 2017 for hosting Simafra’s ‘Eden’, which was named Best Exhibition at an Art Gallery.
The Mayfair Awards 2017 was held at the Royal Academy of Arts on Monday 27th November, and attended by guests including London Craft Week Chairman, Guy Salter OBE; founder of the Fabergé Heritage Council, Sarah Fabergé; and fashion designer, Nicole Farhi. The ceremony was led by TV personality Mark-Francis Vandelli, and winners received certificates hand-drawn by illustrator Claudine O’Sullivan.
Maddox Gallery hosted Eden, Simafra’s first ever solo exhibition in the UK, in early 2017 at our flagship Maddox Street gallery. This collection has clear associations with Christianity’s creation myth, with pieces such as Albero della conoscenza del bene e del male (Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil), Adamo ed Eva (Adam and Eve) and La tentazione (The Temptation) alluding directly to the biblical narrative.
Riccardo Prosperi, popularly known as Simafra, began exhibiting around a decade ago. The richness of colours and use of gold in his work quickly caught the attention of esteemed art collectors including the Lebanese Minister of Finance, the Prince of Qatar and Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz, as well as publications such as Lonely Planet, luxury bookazine The Player and Elle Décor (USA). His works have also been an instant sell-out at Maddox Gallery.
With our flagship gallery based on Maddox Street, Maddox Gallery has always had a deep connection to Mayfair, an area of London with the most historically renowned art scene. We’re delighted to continue this trend and share award-winning art with our visitors.
The Mayfair Awards ceremony was launched in 2012 by The Mayfair Magazine, a monthly luxury lifestyle title distributed throughout Mayfair. The awards serve to celebrate the rich history and vibrant culture associated with London’s most prestigious postcode.
